In remembrance and celebration of Rachel Lynn Nesseth April 22, 2004 - August 10, 2022.
Rachel was a light to all she came in contact with. She exemplified excellence in everything she did and all she accomplished. Rachel was a 2022 graduate of Kenyon-Wanamingo High School. She was accepted to Concordia College where she planned on majoring in biochemistry and competing on Concordia's track and field team.
Rachel was full of energy. She was an active member and officer of her high school in band and choir. She also participated in chamber choir and theatre. She would often play her flute and sing at church. She was involved in the Emmanuel Lutheran youth group. Rachel was also a member of the National Honor Society and was a Board Scholar. Rachel excelled at track as a sprinter and hurdler. She was also a member of her high school volleyball team and captain of the dance team at Triton. She was a school board representative on student council and was the first student from Kenyon-Wanamingo to receive the Region 1A Triple A Award as awarded by the Minnesota State High School League. Rachel was a member of 4-H, a 4-H camp counselor and qualified to compete at the state level multiple times with her horse, Fortune and her dog, Samson.
Rachel was uniquely herself and devoted to not only excelling in her own life, but also providing encouragement and inspiration to those around her. She always went the extra mile to achieve excellence and was always willing to assist and cheer others along that same path. She was a bright light.

The mission of this Foundation is to continue to recognize and encourage excellence in Rachel's name. With generous support and encouragement of our wonderful community, we want to find, foster and fund the youth among us that are living a life of excellence and are going the extra mile for themselves and others. Just as Rachel had various interests, talents and pursuits, our Foundation will not limit those deserving of recognition. We welcome nomination of achievements large and small, academic, athletic, through music, volunteer work, faith and beyond. It is our goal to foster those qualities we so cherished in Rachel. Those are the qualities that will not only launch these individuals to success but will also bless the lives of those around them and point to Jesus. These are the youth that make our community, and the world, a place we all want to live.
We see you, we recognize you, we cherish you and we lift you up as the beacons of light that you are. We thank you for going the Extra Mile!
We are told to make a deliberate choice to give more than we are required. A Jew in Judea, while under Roman military occupation, could be commanded by a soldier to carry his pack for one mile - but only one mile. Jesus here says, "Go beyond the one mile required by law and give another mile out of a free choice of love." This is how we transform a hardship into a free act of love.
Each year, Kenyon Wanamingo High School selects two individuals to be recognized for their achievements in the Arts, Academics, and Athletics. In honor of Rachel, who earned this award in 2022, we will award a scholarship to each of these individuals.
In partnership with the JB's Tavern Volleyball League, this scholarship was given to recognize volleyball players who reached beyond the net to display leadership, faith, character and community.
The Extra Mile Scholarship is awarded to individuals that have gone above and beyond in service, faith, and character.
On Rachel's birthday, April 22, 2023 we held a food drive for area food shelves. The generous donations collected on that day were over 1,400 lbs. Thank you for making this an overwhelming success.
Along with the food drive, we also held a blanket drive on Rachel's birthday. We were able to donate more than 400 blankets to Ronald McDonald house and local shelters.
Putting hands and feet to the prayer that Rachel spoke each evening is very comforting, so I anticipate the food and blanket drive will continue each year. As well as the scholarships for graduating seniors. We look forward to sharing more with you, as we continue to go The Extra Mile for Rachel.
